Worship Him

Friday, January 29th, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
“Honor the LORD for his glory and strength. Honor the LORD for the glory of his name. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.”
Psalms 29:1-2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Why do you think God has put you and I here on this earth? You could certainly build a case for loving others. The Apostle John told us that God is love, so loving others is most certainly on God’s agenda. Evangelism must be a priority as well. Jesus left us with the great commission to go and make disciples of all nations. Personal worship is another purpose God has created us for. We were made to praise Him. What a privilege is ours to bow down before the Almighty creator of the Universe and worship Him. David said to “Honor the Lord” and “To worship Him in the splendor of His holiness.” It is nearly impossible to fathom what it is like to be before God in all His splendor and majesty, but that is what we are invited to do. Take the mountain tops, the streams, sunsets, ocean views, canyons and any other majestic visuals images that you have been privileged to see and let it equal one drop of water. Now put that drop in the ocean and you will begin to see how our paltry earthly images compare to His splendor. So today, no matter where you are, stop and participate in one of the most sacred and special purposes of our human experience. Right this moment, praise Him for who He is. Thank Him for all He has done. Worship Him in all His glory. He has invited you to come and adore Him. Don’t take His invitation for granted. It is a rare gift from God Himself. Worship Him with all your heart, soul and mind.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come right now to worship You. Thank You for Your love for me. I bow before You this moment and adore You for all Your goodness. You are the true and living Almighty God and I praise You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Peace

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
“I am leaving you with a gift — peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever had a crisis of faith? A time when you were so filled with grief, sorrow and anger that you didn’t know where God was? Most of us have wrestled with this passage. Sure, when things are good, its message is perfectly clear; but when you are in agony, you are tempted to say, “What is this passage talking about? Where is my peace of mind and heart?” It is then that I need to remind myself of the context in which Jesus said these words. Read the whole chapter and you will see that Jesus has just introduced Heaven, a whole other reality. It was a cosmic introduction to the blending of this world and the next. Jesus was getting ready to go back to His father. He was about ready to face an unbearable death and spiritual suffering that we cannot begin to imagine. He was only moments from when He, too, would say, “Father, why have you forsaken me?” And yet, with deep empathy Jesus tells us in the first verse of this chapter not to be troubled because He was about to prepare another reality for us. It was obvious His disciples did not understand, so He tells them that He is going to give us the Holy Spirit to comfort us and help us in this world until we reach the next. And then Jesus shares today’s verse, “I am leaving you with a gift — peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” He was right. The world cannot give us peace during our dark nights of the soul. Neither can religion. Only in blending this world and the next can we even begin to make any sense of our suffering here. Only in a larger reality can we find any peace in this dimension. Jesus came so we could live in both. I pray that today you will be able to have a glimpse of this world in light of the next and see that Jesus is the Lord of both. And may that reality begin a process of peace, even in your darkest hour.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, there are times when I ask, “Where is the peace in the darkest nights of the soul? Where is the comfort in such unbearable pain?” And yet, today I see that You who suffered such pain and anguish, have taken the harsh realities of this world and blended them with the next life. Please help my heart live in both realities. Help me today begin to experience the peace that You are talking about. In Jesus’name.
AMEN

Thirst

Wednesday, January 27th, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
John 4:13-14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a beautiful picture God is painting for us. Here is a woman who is coming to the well for water during the heat of the day. She must have been an outcast, for why else come alone during the hot time of the day? Why not come early in the cool of the morning with the other women? Regardless, she comes for water for her physical thirst and Jesus offers her water for her soul. Jesus touches her heart so she leaves the water at the well and runs and tells everyone in the village about Him. She had found what her soul really thirsted for. How about you? What do you need? Is it to be heard and understood? Is it to be affirmed or blessed? Do you want to be loved? Do you need to be forgiven? Perhaps you long to be included or to be chosen? Perhaps it is just to be safe? Whatever the longing of your heart, Jesus has the living water that can quench your thirst. His love for you is the living water you have been looking for. Come to Him today. Drink of His love, forgiveness, understanding, affirmation and blessing. When you do, you too will be telling everyone, “Come and see this Jesus who knows me and quenches the thirst of my soul.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, You know the longings of my heart. You know my needs, my fears, my desires. I come to You today to be filled. Fill me with Your living water. Holy Spirit, come and quench the desires of my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Confess

Tuesday, January 26th, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
“When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, ‘I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.’ And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.”
Psalms 32:3-5

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David paints an accurate picture of someone who is under the hand of conviction. He wrote about the physical affect that guilt played on his body. But David did not allow it to stay that way. Instead, he confessed all his sins to God and experienced what John was talking about in I John 1:8-9, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” The result of David’s confession was the joy of knowing that all his guilt was gone. How about you? Are you burdened with some nagging issue that you need to talk to God about? Have you been consumed with bitterness, anger, fear or worry that you need to repent of? Is the guilt that has separated you from God affecting your thinking, behavior and health? If so, repent. Confess and ask God to cleanse you and set you free. He will forgive you. He will restore your body, mind and soul.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, instead of dealing with issues in the way I should, I let them build up until they are sins festering in my soul and body. Show me today where I need to confess. Point out areas in my life that need forgiveness. Help me to live the life of freedom that You desire for me. Help me break free from this bondage of guilt. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Lead My Heart

Monday, January 25th, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
“May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.”
II Thessalonians 3:5

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It will take a life time to fully mature in Christ. Although our salvation is immediate, maturing in Christ is a process. But we don’t see it that way. We want instant spirituality and here is the real twist, we want it without the spiritual discipline of prayer, meditation and scripture reading. Nor do we want to be busy with ministry. Instead, we have our life to lead, with all its important tasks and duties. Is it a wonder that we don’t know what Jesus is talking about when He says that He has come to give us an abundant life? This is why Paul prays that the Lord would lead our heart into a full understanding and experience of love. A love that will change everything! It is personal and real. When He leads our heart into a full understanding of His love how can we help but mature. And this kind of maturity results in a life of patience endurance. Today ask God to lead your heart into a deep understanding of His love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please lead my heart into a full personal understanding of Your love. Help me today to be purposeful in knowing You and living for You in all I do. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Sin

Friday, January 22nd, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.
Psalms 19:12-13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We are complicated creatures. Paul explains our sin problem when he writes, “And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.” The good news is that Christ has made a way that we can live for Him. Paul continued, “Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.” He concludes, “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.” So today, thank our Lord Jesus for the forgiveness you have through His death and live in victory you have through His resurrection.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your Son Jesus, who died for me and rose again that I can be forgiven and set free from the bondage of sin.
AMEN

Shepherd

Thursday, January 21st, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.
John 10:3-4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can’t make it alone. We were not meant to. God created us out of love and longs to love us, care for us and lead us in the way we should go. That is why Jesus used the illustration of Himself being a good shepherd. The sheep hear the voice of the shepherd and follow it. Jesus later shares with His disciples that He had to go back to His Father in Heaven but how the Holy Spirit will continue to shepherd us. He said, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who will lead you into all truth.” Today, fear not. Let the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth. You can trust the shepherd.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, shepherd me today. Lead me in the way I should go. I trust You and will follow.
AMEN

Christian

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
I Corinthians 6:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You call yourself a Christian but do you really understand what that makes you? It is more than being a church member. It is more than knowing some Bible Stories. It is more than a having a nice moral lifestyle. Being a Christian means you are a child of God. Today’s verse says that when you became a Christian and received Him as your savior you were cleansed from your past. You were made holy in God’s sight. All your sins were forgiven and you were made right with God. Today revel in the reality of your new life in Christ. Your past doesn’t define you. Christ has! You are a child of God and deeply loved, cleansed, forgiven and set apart for His service.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for cleansing me, making me holy and making me right with You. I am Your child and deeply loved by You.
AMEN

Fear Not

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
“I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the LORD is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.”
Psalm 34:4-7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times a day do you fear something? You get called into the office and you are sure you are going to get fired. Your child is late and your mind goes crazy with thoughts of what might have happened. Your spouse is in “that” mood again and you know it is going to get ugly. The credit card bills came in the mail and you don’t know how you are going to pay them. You found a lump and you are waiting for the report from the Doctor’s office. Fear can be healthy, as in, “Don’t step in front of traffic.” But fear can also be unhealthy when it is based on lies. It started with Adam and Eve and it is the same today; most of our spiritual struggles center around a fear-based lie. Most spiritual battle is a struggle over truth. Which will we believe? Lie or truth? Our fear or God love? David prayed to God and God answered him and freed him from all his fears. The Lord listened and saved him from all his troubles and He will do the same for you. What lie has you bound? What keeps you from being still and knowing that He is God? Today, renounce it. Bring it to God. Choose to believe the truth and He will free you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my fears. I bring them to You. Help me, protect me, free me from this bondage of lies. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love

Monday, January 18th, 2016

TODAY’S VERSE
If I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
I Corinthians 13:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God calls us to a higher kind of love. Not some sentimental romantic type of love, but a practical “walk your talk” kind of love. Paul defined it in his letter to the Corinthians when he wrote, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” The Apostle John goes farther and explains how living out our love in practical ways toward each other is the real proof that we know God. He wrote, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” Today, commit yourself to knowing God by doing His will, love those around you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me follow You by loving the way You would have me love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
