Renewed

Friday, May 30th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.
II Corinthians 4:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul experienced over and over again God’s “hope for the helpless.” While in prison, while shipwrecked, while being persecuted or barely having enough to eat, he knew God in a deep and personal way and determined to never give up. He writes, “Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.” Though he was weary, exhausted and many times his back was up against the wall, he was not despondent or disheartened. Instead, through the power of the Holy Spirit, deep in his soul he was emboldened, and encouraged. Christ sustained him. Every day the hope of Heaven and the love of God caused him to be renewed, strengthened and invigorated. He was full of hope. You can be too. Let the presence of Christ and the awareness of His deep love for you give you all you need for this day. Don’t give up; instead, ask God to renew you today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, you know how weary I can become. You know how easily I can let my circumstances influence me. I pray today, help me become conscious of Your mighty presence. Renew my heart, renew my mind, fill me with Your strength and courage. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Hope

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
Psalms 10:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When are you helpless but not really helpless? When you have hope. No more than a young child is totally helpless when their parent stands nearby, so we are when God is in our life. The Psalmist assures us that the Lord hears our cries and comforts us. There may be areas in your life that leave you seemingly helpless. There appears to be no answer, no solution but remember, even when we seem helpless, we are not hopeless. Today, bring your situation to Christ. He knows your plight. He loves you with an unfailing love. He hears you and will comfort your heart. Remember, the Lord knows the hopes of the helpless.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father. Thank You that You never leave me hopeless. You know me. You love me. You hear my cries and today I hope in You. Come dear Lord, comfort me I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be Strong and Courageous

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to let fear grip our heart and influence our decisions. We rationalize why we can’t be strong and courageous. We justify why we should be discouraged and drown ourself in self-pity. But, what is it that God commands? He commands, “Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Today you have a choice. God is with you so decide to obey the Lord. Be strong and courageous in all you face.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am faced with so many opportunities for fear and discouragement and yet You have commanded me to be strong and courageous. Help me, Lord, trust and obey You.
AMEN

Accepting His Love

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

“But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!” – In your unfailing love, rescue me.”
Psalms 31:14, 16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Accepting salvation is an act of faith. It is the result of repenting and accepting Christ’s sacrifice for us. We accept His sacrifice for us but that doesn’t mean we have totally accepted His love. It is possible for you to cry out to God for mercy and forgiveness of sins and yet never fully experience deep in your heart, that you are unconditionally loved. You believe He loves you in your head, but you just can’t grasp it with your heart. Perhaps it is a low feeling of self worth that cannot sense the supernatural love that Christ has for you. In the book “True Faced” the authors write, “When we on the basis of trust receive God’s perfect love for us, it pushes away our fear and teaches us to embrace the love that heals our wounds. – Trusting God frees our hearts to experience his safe, constant, intimate sufficiency. – When we receive love, when we are loved, we feel fulfilled. Love completely satisfies our longings, ambitions, and potential. God, the ultimate fulfiller, invites us to trust Him.” Today stop and trust God, put your complete faith in the fact that when He says He loves you, He truly loves you! Let His unconditional love sink deep into your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for Your salvation. Help me go deeper. Help me trust You and accept deep in my heart the true love You have for me.
AMEN

Spiritual Wisdom

Monday, May 26th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.”
Ephesians 1:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are many things we could ask for in life, but I think Paul listed two of the most important. He was praying for the Ephesians Church that God would give them “spiritual wisdom and insight”. Imagine what you could do if you had it? With Spiritual wisdom and insight you could better discern God’s will. The Holy Spirit could speak to you about your behavior, thoughts and feelings helping you make needed adjustments and changes. What about the deeper truths about God and His word? Spiritual wisdom and insight would be a key unlocking God’s treasury of knowledge. There is so much to know and experience in the spiritual realm. Today ask God to give you spiritual wisdom and insight. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you and lead you day by day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I need Your wisdom. How I need Your insight. Lead me today to Your truth. Guide me, direct me, help me grow in my knowledge of You.
AMEN

Peace

Friday, May 23rd, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

“Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”
Psalms 34:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who said peace is easy? Anyone can be at peace when there aren’t any problems. Instead we need to work for it. We are to turn from evil and pursue peace. We need to let go of our selfish ambitions and instead, do good to others. If peace alludes us, we are to search for it. Finally, we are to work hard at maintaining the peace that we do have. This means turning the other cheek, preferring others over our own self, doing to others in the way we want to be treated. It means praying for peace. Seeking God and asking for His wisdom, understanding and courage. Today, seek peace with all your heart, work hard at it.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You desire us to be at peace. Help me today to be at peace with You and all those around me.
AMEN

Spiritual Gifts

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

“In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.”

Romans 12:6-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In the introduction to the letter to the Ephesians Paul introduces himself by writing, “This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus.” Now, if you were writing to the church in Ephesus how would you introduce your self? “This letter is from me, chosen by the will of God to be – what?” Paul wasn’t talking about a vocation or job. He was talking about his spiritual gifting. In today’s verse Paul writes about the different spiritual gifts and how God has given each of us at least one. How about you? Which of the spiritual gifts helps you define your spiritual calling? Imagine if we started thinking in these terms? Ron called to be merciful for Christ. Susan, chosen by God to be a discerner for God. Mark, called to be a prophet for Jesus. Mary called to be a spiritual teacher. God has called you to serve Him. Today follow the words of Paul to Timothy, “Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for calling me. You have created me and given me spiritual gifts. Help me discern what they are and use them for You.
AMEN

Take Heart

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

“I will boast only in the LORD; let all who are helpless take heart.”
Psalms 34:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We all have choices to make. We have all had times when we have come up against seemingly helpless situations. It is what we do with that helplessness that counts. Dr. Martin Seligman coined the phrase “Learned helplessness” when he was referring to one of the major reasons for depression. He said that when we get discouraged over and over again, we start to “learn” to feel helpless. We give up hope. Thankfully, David gives us another choice. He said that all those who are helpless should “take heart”. This means to take pause and check deep within yourself and find hope. Find that mustard seed of faith in God and believe that He cares and will see you through. Interestingly enough, later in his life Seligman did more research and coined the phrase, “Learned optimism.” He concluded that if we can learn to be helpless, we can learn to be optimistic. Perhaps he read the Psalms. The truth is we have a choice. Today, when things seem to be overwhelming, if you find yourself getting discouraged, take heart, trust in God and have faith. He will see you through.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me today to trust You. Help me overcome any discouragement by taking heart and putting my hope in You.
AMEN

His Love

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

“May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ.
Ephesians 3:18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Trying to experience the love of God is like trying to experience the ocean or a beautiful mountain vista. You can hear about it, see beautiful pictures but nothing can replace being there first hand. Even then, it is impossible to take in all of the beauty and meaning in one visit. It takes time and experience to really appreciate the magnitude and majesty of God’s nature. How much more to truly understand God Himself and His great love for us? This experiential knowledge only comes with time spent in His presence, experiencing His love first hand. As we come to God humbling ourself and admitting our needs, He comes to us with His love and grace. It is spending time with God with an openness, trust and faith that allows us to truly experience and understand the greatness of His love. Today, may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You admitting that I need more understanding of Your love for me. Help me to experience it deep in my heart. Help me live in the full awareness of the love and grace You have for me.
AMEN

Unfailing Love

Monday, May 19th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

“Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O LORD. The LORD is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray.”
Psalms 25:7-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How merciful God is. He could look at our behavior and condemn us. He could read our mind and reject us. He could exact a thousand different punishments for all that we have done. Instead He has chosen to see us through the eyes of His unfailing love. It is so hard to imagine what that really means. It is so foreign to the way we operate. We hold grudges, seek revenge, or at least try to get even. But not God. He does not give up on us. He sees us desperately in need of His grace. And even when we are unlovely, thoroughly lost because of our willful disobedience, He shows us the way back. What makes this so tragic is that we don’t really believe it. We still think we need to wear the mask of our false self. You know, the self that thinks it earns God’s approval. The self that tries to please God through vain attempts at righteousness. Today throw the mask away. You don’t need it. God sees you through His unfailing love and He loves what He sees. Today accept His love and let Him direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your unfailing love. Thank You for Your mercy. Thank You for showing me the proper path to go on when I go astray. Guide me and direct me today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
