Priority

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.
Luke 12:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s verse is very similar to another in which Jesus says, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” At first glance it would be easy to conclude that we should not seek after the riches of this world. Certainly Jesus was an example of a person with no materialistic yearnings. Yet if we reduce these verses to a simple anti-materialism message, we lose the real meaning. The point Jesus was making is that we need to make seeking after Him our first and most important priority. Anyone who has every acquired wealth will tell you that it is hard work and takes every ounce of concentration and energy. Jesus knew this. He knew the zeal and passion a person needs in order to succeed in business. He wants us to have that same, if not more, passion and zeal for knowing and serving Him. Today God calls us to know Him. Build a deep and rich relationship with Him. That is true wealth.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me when I have gotten my priorities all messed up. Lord, help me seek after You. I want knowing and loving You to be the premier desire of my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Don’t Fear

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

So don’t be afraid.
Luke 12:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The same message can have a whole different meaning depending upon who says it. That is how it is with fear. It is one thing for someone who knows nothing of your situation to tell you not to fear and quite another for God, who knows everything about you, who controls the whole universe, who is all powerful and more importantly all loving, to tell you not to fear. Jesus has just finished telling His disciples not to fear because God cares for the birds and you and I are much more valuable to God than the birds. Have you thought of that before? Have you considered that you are valuable to God? It is true, God values you. And what He values, He protects! So today, listen again to what God says to you, His precious valuable creation that He deeply loves and adores. He says, “Don’t be afraid.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I am trusting You. Thank You for Your love. Thank You for valuing my very being. You give me comfort and hope so today, I will not fear.
AMEN

Good Morning

Monday, April 28th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you.
Psalms 143:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you wake up to in the morning? I remember a period in my life when depression and anxiety had me in its grip. I would dread the morning. I would have to fight not to wake to a panic attack. It got so bad that I didn’t want to sleep at night because I knew I would wake up again. But the Lord was faithful. I would go to bed by faith and prep myself to get up and run to Him in prayer and meditation. I learned that from David. Earlier in this passage David wrote, “I am losing all hope; I am paralyzed with fear. – Come quickly, LORD, and answer me, for my depression deepens. Don’t turn away from me.” Then he shared, “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you.” My friend, it was true for David, it was true for me, it is true for you. Today, listen to God’s unfailing love for you. You can trust Him; go in peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, let me hear of Your unfailing love, let me sense that it true, help me believe it with all my heart, for I am trusting you.
AMEN

Delight

Friday, April 25th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

For the Lord delights in His people.
Psalms 149:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever delighted in anyone? Perhaps it was when you were dating your spouse and they brought you so much joy and hope for the future. How about the time your child took their first step? Could it be when a dear friend was there for you when you needed it the most? When is the last time someone took delight in you? This could be harder to recall. It could be that deep down you don’t think of yourself as the object of someone’s delight. But that is not true. God delights in you! You bring your Heavenly Father great pleasure and joy. Today, stop and know deep in your heart that You are God’s created masterpiece and He takes great delight in you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love and kindness toward me. Thank You for creating me. It brings me deep joy to know that You delight in me and love me unconditionally. Thank You, in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Heaven

Thursday, April 24th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.
Philippians 1:27 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get so involved in the minutia of this life that we forget that we have been born again into a new family. We forget that we have a whole new existence. We are now citizens of Heaven and that should affect everything we do here. Paul tells us that above everything else we must live as people of Heaven. This should change the way we look at this world, the way we interpret events, the way we live out our faith. Paul says that it should result in living a life that is worthy of Christ’s grace and mercy toward us. Today, rejoice! You are a child of God and a citizen of His Kingdom! Let this reality shape the way you think and act.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for making me a citizen of Heaven. I am Your servant and pledge my allegiance to You and Your Kingdom here on earth. Help me live in a manner worthy of this Good News. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Slave

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.
Romans 6:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What are you a slave of? We don’t like to think of it that way. We pride ourself of our freedom. We love our free will and the ability to choose what we want, when we want. We’re not a slave to the world; we just spend a lot of time behaving like it. We are not a slave to worldly thinking. We go to church once a week and spend a couple hours a week reading the Bible. However, truth be told we begin to become controlled by what we allow to influence us. We “live in the world” but if we are not careful we will become “of the world.” There is a way out. We can choose to be God’s slave. We can obey His teaching with all our heart. Paul wrote it this way, “Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you.” Today, choose God. Choose to obey Him with all your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I have been a slave to so many things. Today I choose to obey You with my whole heart. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me live for You.
AMEN

Patient Endurance

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will.
Hebrews 10:36 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We love the victories. It is exciting when things that we planned on work out. But so often we forget what got us there. It was patient endurance. Behind every great success is a process of getting us to that place. Trial and error, falling down and getting back up again, stop and start, two steps forward and one backwards. This is the way of life. It is the growth process. It is maturation. If we are going to live the life God has called us to, if we are going to complete all that He has ordained us to do, then we will need to practice patient endurance. Today, ask God for the courage, strength and power you need to continue on your journey. Hear His words again, “Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, help me today to live with patient endurance so I can continue to do Your will.
AMEN

Satisfaction

Monday, April 21st, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.
Psalms 90:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How we start our morning can affect our whole day. Many suggest that we start our day with a regiment of Biblical reading and prayers. This is wonderful and will lead us into deep Spiritual understanding. But God is looking for more than understanding. He is looking for a devoted heart. One that knows Him, not just His word. The Psalmist asked God to satisfy him with His unfailing love every morning. What if that was your desire? What if that was your accomplishment? To get up every morning and experience His love till you are deeply satisfied. Today you can. Stop and let your heart mediate on God’s unfailing love for you. Let it put a song in your heart and sing for joy over the fact that you are His and His love for you is unfailing.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, satisfy me every morning with Your unfailing love. May it cause my heart to sing for joy all my days. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Don’t Pass By

Friday, April 18th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”
Luke 10:36-37 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When asked, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus answered with the story of the Good Samaritan. The story was about a man that was robbed and left for dead. Jesus told of a priest and a Levite, who because of their love for God and a fellow Jew, should have stopped and helped the wounded person. Instead they both decided to pass by on the other side of the road. He then said that a Samaritan, who was an enemy of the Jews, stopped and took care of the situation. Jesus then asked, “Which one of the people was a neighbor to the victim?” The answer was, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus then commanded us to “Go and do likewise.” The questions for us are, “Who will we pass by today?” And, “If they are wounded, will we show mercy?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You care for the wounded. You desire mercy. Help me not to pass by those hurting on my path. Help me to help others like Jesus did.
AMEN

Power

Thursday, April 17th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 1:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How sad to be an incredible painter and never use a brush. To have a high IQ and never go to college. To be rich and die on the streets as a homeless person. Yet Paul was concerned that we would be a Christian and never understand and avail ourselves of the power for living we have in Christ. Listen to what he wrote in his letter to the Ephesians. “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Today, ask God to open your understanding to all the power that He has for your life. Don’t let it go to waste.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I confess, I know nothing of the incredible power You have for my life. I pray, open my understanding. Help me to know and experience Your power in my life. Empower me, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
