Glory

Friday, February 28th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.
Psalms 115:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Would we rob God? You say, “But how can we rob God, He is so powerful, so Almighty?” But that is exactly what we rob from Him! We steal the recognition of His power and almightiness when we fail to give Him glory, praise and thanksgiving. We rob God when we act as if He had nothing to do with the blessings that we have. When we live our life as if He did not exist, we rob Him of His Glory. Do we diminish God? No, our lack of worship and praise does not diminish one drop from the vastness of who He is, but we fail to give Him what He deserves for all His love and faithfulness to us. So today, stop, lift up your heart and give thanks to God for all He is, for all He does and all He has done! Let your prayer be, “Not to me, O LORD, not to me, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God, forgive me for not praising You for all that You are and all that You have done in my life. I come today and give You all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness to me!
AMEN

Greed

Thursday, February 27th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.
Luke 12:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We must guard against greed. Our society pushes materialism, so we end up trying to bolster our self-image with possessions, prestige and status. But Christianity flies in the face of materialistic greed. It begs the question, “When is it enough?” In this same passage as today’s verse, Jesus counters our need for greed by saying, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. – Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! – Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” If we want to obey Jesus, then we must guard our heart by being on guard against greed. God has a different standard, a different measuring stick for this life. Today, listen to Jesus, “Life is not measured by how much you own.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, stir my heart. Help me to love what You love, to desire what You desire and to be on guard against every kind of greed. In Your Holy name I pray.
AMEN

Christ’s Love

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Christ’s love controls us.
II Corinthians 5:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christianity was never meant to be a nominal religion. It is a call to radical discipleship. Not a forced dictatorship where we become unwilling subjects but rather a volunteer commitment out of gratitude and thanksgiving for all the love that has been given to us. Paul put it this way, “He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.” So what are you living for? Today, let Christ’s love control you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Christ, thank You for Your death and resurrection. Thank You for forgiving me of all my sins. Today, I submit to You. Let Your love fully control the way I think and act.
AMEN

Praise

Tuesday, February 25th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Ps. 34:1 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is much attention given today on “Being in the moment.” How much of our anxiety and depression is because we are either living in the past or anticipating the future? How much better life would be, if we lived in the fullness of this moment and not react to things beyond our control. The good news is that God has given us a way to focus on the “now.” It is called Praise. Yes, David, almost three thousand years before modern Psychology, shares how to have good mental and spiritual health. He encourages us to praise God in all things. Praise keeps our attention on God in this moment. He is the God “who is there” and we can praise Him in all things. If you want joy, if you want peace, if you want a vital Spiritual walk then listen to what David made as his life motto, “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I praise You for being there every moment of my life. I will bless You at all times. Your praise will continually be in my mouth.
AMEN

Ransomed

Monday, February 24th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.
Isaiah 43:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s verse is a beautiful metaphor of our Christian experience. To ransom someone in the Old Testament usually meant to pay a price to set a prisoner or slave free. This person would be “redeemed” or “bought with a price.” So we see that Jesus came and took us from the slavery of sin and the prisoner of our own human nature and paid our ransom with His own blood. Jesus set us free. What a beautiful picture of grace and mercy. But God doesn’t finish with just redeeming us. He loves, guides and protects us. God, through Isaiah, continues in this passage saying, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” Today, rejoice that He has delivered you from your past and will love and protect you in the present. You are His, He knows you by name!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for redeeming me. Thank You for Your protection, love and guidance. Thank You for the fact that I am Yours, that You know me by name! In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

With Me

Friday, February 21st, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
II Corinthians 13:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul beautifully closes his letter to the church in Corinth with a wonderful blessing for the people. It incorporates the whole Godhead. He begins by blessing them with the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Grace in the form of unmerited mercy and forgiveness of all we have done. With this grace we begin to comprehend the love of God. We let our roots grow down into God’s love and receive the power to understand how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. If this isn’t enough, Paul invites us to fellowship with God through His Holy Spirit. This communion is life changing and possible because God put His own spirit in us. What a marvelous plan, what a wonderful reality, God in all His fullness fellowships with us. So today let this blessing sink deep into your heart, “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with me. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Fellowship

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
II Corinthians 13:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How often does the love and peace of God elude us? Paul knew about this tendency so he instructed people in the church to, “Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace.” You see, we need each other. It is in relationships that we find joy and grow in maturity. It is in community that we encourage each other and find the help needed to live in harmony and peace. So today, pray for your church. Recommit yourself to fellowship with others. Be joyful, grow in maturity. Find others you can encourage and live in harmony and peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I pray for my fellowship. I pray that we will be joyful, grow in maturity, encourage each other and live in harmony and peace.
AMEN

What Are You Wearing?

Tuesday, February 18th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. – Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
Colossians 3:12, 14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What are you wearing? I like Paul’s analogy of our Christian lifestyle being like the clothes we wear. Clothes are what people see and so are our actions. Paul is saying that because God dearly loves us and that we are chosen by God to be His holy people, we should behave certain ways. Not out of necessity but out of gratitude. Not phony like a mask or pretentious like a Tuxedo, but our actions should reflect our everyday attire. It should be natural for us to wear tenderhearted mercy and kindness. When people see us they should see humility, gentleness and patience. Most of all, love should be obvious to everyone that meets us. The good news is that Paul included all but mercy, in his list of the fruit of the spirit. The Holy Spirit, Himself, helps us live this way. So today make sure when you pick out your outfit to wear, you include tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience and love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, help me to make mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience and love a priority in my life. Help me wear them like I do my clothing. For Your glory and in Your power I pray.
AMEN

Helping Others

Tuesday, February 18th, 2014

TODAY’S VERSE

They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.
II Corinthians 8:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our model for Christian living is Jesus and the New Testament Church. Paul followed Jesus and lived a life of sacrifice and he asked the churches he started to do the same. Today’s verse shares about the churches in Macedonia. They were suffering with troubles and were very poor but they gave themselves fully to the Lord. They were filled with abundant joy and were eager to help others. Paul testified that, “They gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will.” It begs the questions, “What is God doing in our church? What is He doing in our life?” “How generous are we?” Today, follow the New Testament example, give yourself fully to the Lord and be full of joy, eager to help others.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love and joy. Help me to use what I have to help others. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine?
Luke 17:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to take God’s goodness for granted. In today’s passage, there were ten lepers who cried out to Jesus, “Master, have mercy on us!” Jesus told them, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” As they went on their way they were all cleansed of their leprosy, but only one of them came back to Jesus and thanked Him. Jesus then asked a very indicting question, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine?” It would be easy to judge the nine lepers, but what about us? There has been so much goodness in our life. How often have we failed to run back to Jesus and thank Him? We would judge a leper who was healed for not coming back to Jesus, but what about those of us who have never been sick? How many days have we been without food or shelter? How many times have we been destitute and all alone? Hasn’t God has been so good to us? Today, examine your life. What have you forgot to thank Jesus for? It’s not too late. Bring Him your praise and thanksgiving for all He has done for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for all You have done for me. Forgive me for my lack of gratefulness. I praise You for Your grace and mercy in my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
