Anxiety

TODAY’S VERSE

Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
I Peter 5:7 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to worry. We start to believe lies about ourself and more importantly about God. We begin to doubt our own worth and His great love for us. With our mind full of false beliefs we make predictions, horrible predictions that cause us to worry and fret. Peter knew this all too well. He had worried when Jesus was taken to be crucified. He let his mind get the best of him and when Jesus was being tried and beat, Peter denied that he ever knew Him. He let his fear overshadow the love that Jesus had for Him. Years later, he wrote to the church and shared what he had come to know as true. He told them to cast all their worries and concerns once and for all on Jesus. Why? Because Peter had experienced the fact that Jesus deeply cares for him. Today, let this same affection that Jesus had for Peter fill you with courage. Come to Him and cast all your cares on Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your love and affection for me. I come to You today because You care for me and I cast all my concerns and worries at Your feet.
AMEN

Rescue Me

Thursday, November 28th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Psalms 34:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David could write today’s passage with confidence. He had experienced the Lord being close to the brokenhearted. His own! His own heart had been broken many times. As a young man he was neglected and ridiculed by his own family. As a young adult he had to leave his home and best friend because he was unjustly hunted down like a common criminal. He lost a son at birth. Another son grew up hating him and fighting against him, eventually dying in war. Over and over David had to commit himself to God. When his spirit was crushed God would rescue him. Centuries later Jesus would say, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Jesus promises that He will come and relieve and refresh our weary soul. David knew this about God. Isn’t it time we did? Today, bring Jesus all your heavy burdens. Open your broken heart to God. Give Him your crushed Spirit and let Him rescue you and refresh your soul.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I come to You with all my burdens. I give You my crushed spirit. Rescue me. Refresh my soul. Give me relief from my troubles I pray.
AMEN

Life And Peace

Wednesday, November 27th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

Letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
Romans 8:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What controls you? We have deep needs to belong, be loved, be understood, be secure and to have purpose and meaning. Unfulfilled, we are controlled by our emotions and passions. We try our own way to meet these deep needs but to no avail. Unfortunately we will never find what we really need in success, fame, fortune or other worldly pursuits. Instead the Apostle Paul tells us how to meet the core longings of our heart. It is through a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. When we become a Christian, God’s Holy Spirit invades our life leading us and guiding us in a new direction. It is a Spiritual journey and when we let God control our mind through the Holy Spirit the result is life and peace. Today, let your needs be met by God. Submit to Him and let His word and the Holy Spirit control your mind.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit. Take control of my heart and mind. Help all my deep longings be found in You. I give you myself, give me Your life and peace. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
I John 4:7-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When Jesus was asked what the most important commandment was, He said that it was to love God with all our heart, soul and mind and to love our neighbor as yourself. If this wasn’t enough to convince us that love in important, the Apostle John makes it abundantly clear by giving us a unique piece of theology. He defines God. He says, “God is love!” Not, “God wants us to love.” Not, “God desires love.” Not, “God loves us.” He says, “God is love and if anyone does not love, he or she does not know God.” Today, let us reset our priorities and love the way our God, who is love, loves.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You are love. I cannot even imagine what that really means. But I do know that You want me to love like You do. So today, dear Lord, help me to love others in the same way You love me.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ – ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’Matthew 25:35-36, 40 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus used this parable to illustrate who His true followers were. He could have used any illustration. He could have said, “Those who know my word the best.” “Those that spend the most time in church.” “Those that pray the most.” But He didn’t. While those are all behaviors that we should take seriously, Jesus chose to immortalize those that helped the hungry, helpless, naked, sick and prisoners as His true followers. When are we going to get this? When are we going to see that this was foremost on Jesus’ mind? When are we going to see that this was what He personally exemplified? Let Jesus Himself tell us one more time, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, Help me to be more like You. Help me to get involved in helping and loving those that are in need.
AMEN

Hard Heart

Friday, November 22nd, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.
Mark 6:50-52 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The disciples were in the boat crossing the Sea of Galilee. Jesus told them to go ahead of him. But a strong wind came up and they were straining, trying to make it across. They were afraid, and then terrified as Jesus approached the boat walking on the water. They were in the Abyss, fighting for their life, and now they thought they saw a ghost. All their sea faring superstitions and primal fears took over and their faith was nowhere to be found. This would not have been so bad, but they just saw Jesus feed five thousand people. They had seen Jesus do countless other miracles and yet the Bible says their heart was hardened. We often think of the “Hard heart” as someone who is jaded or bitter. They don’t care. This is true when referring to being calloused. But the word also means lacking spiritual perception. The disciples were sincere, they were following Jesus, but they were fighting a life of tradition, superstition and legalism. What are you fighting? What is keeping your heart hard? Today, ask God to give you spiritual perception that you may know and enjoy the truth of God’s love and grace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, soften my heart that I may perceive and receive your truth. Speak to my heart I pray.
AMEN

Wake Up

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.
Matthew 22:29 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are mistakes and then there are catastrophic errors! Some mistakes don’t have much of a consequence. We can live with them. But some errors can have crippling effects in our life. The sad thing is when we do not even realize we are making a mistake. A person in a coma would not know if they were not eating and starving to death. If not careful, we can slip into a spiritual coma. A coma that causes us to go through this life without knowing the scriptures or the power of God. It was the error of the Sadducees, the religious leaders of Jesus’ day. It is our mistake too when we become religious. God is not looking for religious leaders. He is looking for a relationship. A relationship where He can share with us His word and live through us with His power. Today, let us wake up and come alive in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, stir me from my coma. I do not know Your word like I should or Your power. Revive me, wake me up that I may know You deeper and live for you in the fullness of Your power.
AMEN

Amazing Grace

Wednesday, November 20th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!
I Chronicles 29:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David knew about God’s grace and mercy. He loved God and was constantly amazed by His love. So when it came time to build a Temple to honor God, David gave all of his vast treasure to the project. He did not hold back. Neither did the people. A great collection was made of gold, silver, lumber, jewels and other riches in order to build the Temple. When the collection was finished David was humbled and grateful. He wrote, “But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you?” He was amazed by God’s grace. Are we? How can we sing the song Amazing Grace and still not get it? How can we live our life and not feel what David was feeling? Who are we that He would love us unconditionally? Yet, He does. Today, let us stop and consider how amazing God’s grace really is!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your grace, love and mercy toward me. Today help me to really know deep in my heart, how amazing Your grace really is.
AMEN

Where Are You Walking?

Tuesday, November 19th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

And so I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!
Psalms 116:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Where are you walking? It is so easy to walk and not be conscious of where we are. I was hiking on a mountain trail in a dark green lush forest. It was a beautiful sunny day and yet as the afternoon set in it suddenly dawned on me that I spent most of my time looking down at the trail trying to forge ahead and make my destination. I never looked up at the trees or saw all the beautiful panoramic views of the valley below. I missed a whole day of breathtaking scenery because of my preoccupation with the trail in front of me. Our God is magnificent. His love is unfathomable. And yet if we are not careful we will find ourself walking through this life never really aware of His presence. Today, let’s make a conscious effort, like the Psalmist, to walk in the Lord’s presence as we live here on earth!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am so sorry that I have missed so much of your love. I have missed so much of your Glory because I have been so preoccupied trying to live. I forgot that you are the true source of joy, love and life itself. Today, Lord, I come back. I want to walk the trail with you, fully conscious of Your presence. Oh Holy Spirit, help me to that end I pray.
AMEN

Holy Spirit

Monday, November 18th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
Romans 8:26 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever groaned for someone? I think of the times I have interceded with God for my children. I was so concerned and deeply moved that I would literally groan my requests to God. I was praying with deep intent and emotion. I was interceding out of love and concern. I was praying from the heart. This, however, is just a small measure of the way the Holy Spirit intercedes for us. Paul shares that the Holy Spirit helps us with our weaknesses by interceding with God in ways we will never know about. His groaning on our behalf is so intense that it cannot even be expressed in human language. What concern, what love, what power the Holy Spirit expresses for us. Today, join the Holy Spirit in His intercession for you. Tell Him your concerns. Share with Him your needs, your deepest longings. Then take comfort knowing that the Holy Spirit is interceding on your behalf.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You that even when I don’t know how to pray, Your Spirit intercedes for me. Bless You, Lord, for Your deep love and concern for me.
AMEN
