Love And Good Works

Monday, September 30th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.”
Hebrews 10:24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus never intended us to be church dwellers. He wanted us to be field workers. He didn’t go around setting up new synagogues in His name so we could worship. Instead, He called us to participate in His mission. Now assembling together to worship, learn and encourage one another is definitely important. Right after today’s passage the author writes, “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another.” However, if you really want to know what is near to the heart of Jesus, read Matthew chapter nine. Matthew wrote, “Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness.” The author of Hebrews compels us to do the same today. He wrote, “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, Your compassion is boundless and Your mission is clear. Help me to live like You. Help me love and serve others like You did. Guide me, Lord, and empower me with Your Holy Spirit I pray.
AMEN

The Light Of God’s Love

Friday, September 27th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

“Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O LORD.”
Psalms 25:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So much of our negative behavior is the result of false beliefs about ourselves. To sin or to be caught in sin only confirms these negative beliefs or lies that we already have. And the pain of being reminded of how we perceive ourselves is too much to bare. We would rather use deception, avoid others, put on masks or act religious – anything but let others see who we really are. But is that who we really are? God does not think so. He is not the one who has called you a loser, no good, damaged goods, a mistake. God knows exactly who you are, and He loves you. How? He remembers us in the light of His unfailing love. Today, go and do likewise. See yourself and others through the eyes of God’s unfailing love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I long to love like You. Not just loving others, but loving myself as well. Thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, and Your unconditional love toward me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Relationship With God

Thursday, September 26th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

“Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.”
Luke 6:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wondered what Jesus prayed about all night? Most of us struggle to pray for short amounts of time before our mind wanders off or we don’t know what to say anymore. But for Jesus it was about a relationship. Have you ever stayed up all night with a good friend? Jesus was spending time with His Father. We see this kind of prayer in John 17. Jesus is praying for all those that would follow Him. It was a deeply moving and passionate prayer. It was an intimate conversation with His Father. And Jesus prayed that we would have the same kind of relationship with God the Father that He did. He prayed, “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” Jesus asked the Father to make it so we would have the same kind of relationship that they had with each other. God has given us the ability to love Him, know Him, converse with Him and listen to Him, just like Jesus did. Isn’t it time that we started to spend more time with God? Why not start today?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want a deeper relationship with You. I want to know You more, love You more, share with You more and hear more of what You want me to know. Help me do this through the power of Your Holy Spirit I pray.
AMEN

Keep God In All You Do

Wednesday, September 25th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

“You inspect the breaks in the walls of Jerusalem. You store up water in the lower pool. You survey the houses and tear some down for stone to strengthen the walls. Between the city walls, you build a reservoir for water from the old pool. But you never ask for help from the One who did all this. You never considered the One who planned this long ago.”
Isaiah 22:9-11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a great tension between trusting God and doing things by ourself. The old adage, “Pray as if everything depended on God and works as if everything depended on you,” sounds good but is it really what God wants? Yes, we should pray and ask God for His guidance, and yes we should work hard at what He has called us to do. But it is not like the prayer at the beginning of a meal. At mealtime we give thanks and then go about eating our food. However for our life concerns and projects we pray over what we are about to do and then remain in continuous prayer as we participate with God in what He has called us to do. The Israelites trusted God as they began to work on the walls of Jerusalem, but somewhere between planning and building, they left God out of it. Isaiah wrote, “Between the city walls, you build a reservoir for water from the old pool. But you never ask for help from the One who did all this. You never considered the One who planned this long ago.” Today, as you go about your day, as you attack the plans that God has given you, consider Him. This is a new day; make Him the Lord of it and seek Him in all you do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, forgive me for running ahead of You. I desire to live for You and yet it seems I live my life without You. Help me. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit so that I keep You Lord of all I do. Help me to live for Your glory. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Holy Place

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.”
Hebrews 10:19-22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a Holy Place. Far beyond the vastness of the universe, before eternity ever started, beyond any form of comprehension, there is God. And this God allows all that He is, to become exposed to all that we are. We with our humanness, our finite, fickle, sinful selves are allowed to enter the Holy Place through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. How marvelous, how wonderful, how unbelievable that we can “go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting Him.” Today, enter the Holy Place and commune with the Holy God, fully trusting that He has bid you to come.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Holy Father, who am I that You would allow me to enter into Your Holy Place? Thanks be to You and Your Son Jesus Christ who died in my place that I might be made holy in Your sight. Thank You for bidding me to come and fellowship with You. I come, Dear Father, fully trusting in Your love and forgiveness.
AMEN

Revive Me

Monday, September 23rd, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE
“The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living.”
Psalms 19:7-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What if I told you there was a way to revive your soul, to make you wise, to bring joy to your heart and to give you insight for living your life? Would you be interested? David tells us that there is a way to receive all the above and even more. How? By reading and living according to God’s word. His word is wise, trustworthy, true, clear and speaks to us in deep and meaningful ways. Today, spend time in His word. Come to God and listen to what He has to say. It will revive your soul.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, revive my soul. Feed me through Your word. Give me a deep joy and clear guidance. I come, dear Lord, so speak to my heart. I want to hear You.
AMEN

With God I Can!

Friday, September 20th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

“You light a lamp for me. The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness. In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall.”
Psalms 18:28-29 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David’s faith in God is infectious. He shares how dire his situation is when he writes, “The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path.” And yet David trusts in God. Not just trust, David gushes with optimism. Verse after verse gives hope in the God who cares, the God who is able. When there is darkness in his life, God provides light. When there is an army, God gives him strength. When there is a wall in front of him, God enables him to scale it. David writes, “God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights.” You may have problems, struggles abound and difficulties are all around; but today, trust in God like David did. Put your faith in Him. He will make a way.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God Almighty, I need Your strength today. I need Your light in my darkness, I need Your help to scale the walls in front of me. Lord, give me the faith I need so I can say with confidence, “With God I can.”
AMEN

God Hears Me

Wednesday, September 18th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE
“But in my distress I cried out to the LORD; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.
Psalms 18:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love hope. I need hope. Everyday is new and so are the challenges. And there are a lot of things we can do to help ourself get through the morass of issues and concerns that face us. There are a lot of different techniques and systems that will help us. New ways of thinking, new tools. But one thing surpasses every coping mechanism, every strategy, every technique, every method of problem solving. It is our relationship with God. David knew this. He was a doer. He knew how to solve problems, yet when he was in severe crises, there was one place he went to over and over again. He went to God. He went to the arms of his good shepherd. And God heard him. He writes, “Yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.” His cries reached the ears of Heaven. So will yours. Today, don’t stop whatever is helping you but add to it the one thing that can make all the difference. In all your striving add hope. Cry out to the Lord, you will reach His ears.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to You. I come and present all my needs, all my concerns. I cannot make it without You. I cry out and I know You hear me. Comfort me even today, Lord. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be Strong

Wednesday, September 18th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.”
1 Corinthians 16:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What could Paul say? What could he write to a church that was struggling with division and immorality? How could he encourage the leaders to lead and the church to follow? He did it by writing a letter to be read to the church. At the end of this letter he gave them a final admonition. Paul, who used so many soldier and athletic metaphors, writes like a commander preparing his troops, like a coach inspiring his team at half time. He writes, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.” We would do well to listen to these words today. We need to be on our guard against those things around us that would rot our soul. We dare not be asleep on the watch. Watching, when trouble and temptation come our way, we need to stand firm. It is not the time to run, to cry over past sins; rather it is time to hold our ground. In repentance and rededication we dig in and fight the fight for our faith. And this takes courage. Doubting is fine, but not when the battle is upon you. Look to God, shout out a prayer and move ahead with His strength and courage. God is here, He is with you; in Him, you will be strong. So today, may God give you all you need to be all you can in Him. Be on your guard, stand firm, have courage and be strong.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come in the wonderful name of Jesus and ask for Your strength and courage. I ask that You would help me as I stand guard and stand firm in the faith. Help me be strong and have courage so that I can do all that You have called me to do. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Wait On The Lord

Tuesday, September 17th, 2013

TODAY’S VERSE

“Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”
Psalms 27:14 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to delay gratification. We want what we want, when we want it. It is hard to hold back our thirst for justice. It was so unfair! It is so hard to wait for resolution. When will it all end? We think because it is a Godly desire it should be. We have yearned so long, how much longer? So what do we do when it seems that God is silent and we can’t hold on much longer? David knew. He wrote, “Be strong and take heart.” David is calling on us to be strong and brave and use all the patience and strength we have in order to persevere. And then he calls upon us to “take heart.” When everything in us is screaming for action, crying for resolution and we have the accelerator pushed all the way to the floor, we need to stop, take a deep breath and calm ourself. We need to refocus on what is true and reconnect with God. It is in that moment, we allow God to help us regulate our emotion back to peace and joy. Today we have choices. We can wait, we can be strong and we can take heart. Today, wait for the Lord; He is there.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You that You know my situation. You know my needs. Help me gain strength from this and to take heart. Teach me to wait on You and trust You to provide for me in ways that only You can. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
