Stand On His Love

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

TODAY’S VERSE
He has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it.
Colossians 1:22-23 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What you do with truth can make all the difference in the world. Truth is meant to be deeply believed. This is more than a mental assent. Sacred truth, life changing truth, is meant to be acted on. You must choose, commit and continue in the truth that He loves you, forgives you and wants a wonderful relationship with you. Really knowing Christ’s love means you repent and rebound from any sin in your life. This life altering truth enables you to be in His presence praying and opening up to Him about your feelings. Today, begin to believe, really believe. Stand firmly on the truth that He loves you, forgives you and has made you blameless in His sight.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, teach me to know, believe and live out the truth of Your love for me. Help the truth of your forgiveness and desire for my fellowship with You, go deep into my heart. Help me stand firmly on the fact that, really love me.”
AMEN

Lament

Monday, January 8th, 2018

TODAY’S VERSE
I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
Lamentations 3:19-23 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life has its share of trials. It can become confusing and leave us bitter. All the while we are taught not to complain, not to express our anger or disappointment. And I understand. We are to live by faith, we are to trust in the Lord. But trust comes from an honest relationship with God even when we don’t understand everything there is to know. Lamenting was common in the Bible. Many of the Psalms were outright displays of painful emotions. There is something about being honest with God about our emotion that brings a freedom and an ability to have a little more understanding of God’s mystery. Jeremiah knew grief and disappointment and he cried out to God. He wrote, “I am the one who has seen the afflictions that come from the rod of the LORD’s anger. He has led me into darkness, shutting out all light. – He has walled me in, and I cannot escape. He has bound me in heavy chains. And though I cry and shout, he has shut out my prayers. He has blocked my way with a high stone wall; he has made my road crooked.” But after sharing his deep pain with God, God allowed Him to come to a deeper understanding of spiritual truth. Jeremiah finishes his lament writing, “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” Today, bring your burdens to God. Share with Him your disappointment and grief and let Him show you a deeper truth.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, there are so many things I don’t understand. My heart has its deep hurts and pain. Help me to share with You, be honest with You and then in Your mercy, heal my soul with Your restorative grace.
AMEN

Faith, Love and Hope

Sunday, January 7th, 2018

TODAY’S VERSE
We think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I Thessalonians 1:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do people think of when they think of our life’s achievements? There are many good things we can do with our time but not all are the best. God puts a premium on some goals more than others. In today’s verse, Paul writes to the church in Thessalonica stressing the importance of their “faithful work, loving deeds and enduring hope”. God has called us to love the world like He does. This means being faithful in loving others no matter how hard it is. It means filling our time helping those around us all we can. Finally, loving the world means loving people, even when it is not easy. When there are not enough resources. When people reject the very love we offer them. Today, when people think of us, might they think about our faithful work, loving deeds and enduring hope.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, help me live for You. Help me be faithful in my serving You. Help me be loving in all I do. Finally, give me the ability to endure because of my hope in You.
AMEN

He Is Listening

Thursday, January 4th, 2018

TODAY’S VERSE
I love the LORD because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!
Psalms 116:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are a lot of reasons to love the Lord. But one that we often take for granted is, His listening ear. The Psalmist wrote that he loved the Lord because God heard his voice and prayer for mercy. He painted a picture of God bending down to listen, like an endearing grandfather does his grandchild. How we underestimate God’s loving attention. Studies have shown that shame in a young child is often related to the lack of response from their caregiver. The child made a bid for attention and the caregiver paid no attention. The child’s conclusion is shame, “there must be something wrong with me.” Not so with God. When He hears our voice, when He bends down to hear our very whisper, how our soul responds in love. Today, spend time with God. He longs to hear your voice.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank you for being there when I pray. Thanks for Your loving attention to the needs of my heart. I love you, Lord.
AMEN

Empty Tomb

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018

TODAY’S VERSE
Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body.
Mark 16:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How you come to the tomb of Christ makes all the difference. Three days had passed since the death of Christ and some of the women thought of anointing the body of Jesus. For whatever reason, they were not expecting Jesus to be risen from the dead. And neither were the disciples. How do we come to the tomb of Jesus? We come Sundays to church with our “spices” of worship, praising Him for His sacrificial death for us. But is that as far as we go? Is it possible that we come celebrating His death for our sins while forgetting His Resurrection for our life? Do we come to the tomb looking to anoint His body but all the while forgetting that He is risen from the dead! We do this when we worship His sacrifice but deny His power. Paul wrote to the Ephesians about this very thing. He wrote, “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.” Today, ask God to add to your worship experience, the deep understanding of God’s incredible power, the power of the empty tomb.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, so many times I come to You as if You were still dead in the tomb. Yes, I believe in Your death and the sacrifice for my sins, but I so often forget the power of the resurrection in my life. Help me, Lord. Open my eyes that I may see You in all Your resurrection power.
AMEN

Fear Not

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2018

TODAY’S VERSE
In my distress I prayed to the LORD, and the LORD answered me and set me free. The LORD is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?
Psalms 118:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many fears do we suffer with today? Having suffered with a variety of phobias, I have had to deal with fear much of my life. Today’s passage illustrates a great realization that has made a vast difference in my life. It is this, the fact that the Lord is here. The Psalmist wrote, “In my distress I prayed to the LORD, and the LORD answered me and set me free. The LORD is for me, so I will have no fear.” The presence of our living, all knowing, all powerful God can bring peace to the most severe situations. He is the God of the now. He is here and He cares. Peter wrote, “Casting all your cares on Him, for He cares for you!” God’s presence brings everything into prospective. His presence switches our thinking from monstrous evildoers to “mere men.” We can say with the Psalmist, “What can mere people do to me?” Today, reframe your fears. Put it in perspective. Look at your fears in the light of His presence and power.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, free me from my fears. Help me today to realize that You are here. I cast all my worries on You because You care for me!
AMEN
